It’s in my character!
“It must be emphasised that any list of
abjectives, be it short or long, would fall
critically short of describing Hollie. Though
descriptions are possible, none would serve
as more than a transient reference – a
bookmark – in one chapter of the epic
adventure that Hollie’s life seems to me.
The characters of people are fluid, not
fixed personas. Hollie personifies this
notion in the sense that during the time we
spent in one another’s company, I found
myself repeatedly amending my
understanding of who she was and what I
was seeing in the world around me. Her
depth of character, and the ease with
which she shares it with others, is rare and
precious.”

What I say about me ...

- Online curriculum design for secondary & undergraduate students
- Design & tailoring of specific short courses, signature assignments & assessments (huge inspiration from ‘Creating Wicked Students: Paul Hanstedt)
- The mapping out of key learning outcomes and desired competencies
- The curation of detailed session plans for self-paced online learning
- Working to project timelines to deliver world- class, well-designed learning experiences.
- Creating and updating internal, instructor and student guides for learning
What would I say I’m Skilled In?
But that doesn't tell you what I Love
1. Tea … but only before 10am and after 4.30pm!
2. Sleeping in my tent … even when there is a bed available for me.
3. Silence
4. Natural beauty
5. Inland waters
6. Any wilderness and the flora and fauna

Or How I see Myself
As a bit of a think-outside-the-box, make-the-
most-of-life nomad. Bold, quite curious and
ready to take on any challenge. I always like to be learning (and getting others to learn with me!)
A Learning Experience Designer (LXD) creates engaging, effective and user-focused educational experiences tailored to specific audiences. We focus on understanding learners’ needs, behaviours and cultural contexts to design content and delivery methods that resonate. The role often bridges education, psychology and design, blending technology and pedagogy to foster meaningful learning.
I tailor curricula & short courses (secondary and undergraduate students), focusing on creating impactful learning experiences through scene investigations and descriptions, taught online or in-person over a semester or in intensive blocks. I also design and lead field courses across East and Southern Africa, as a freelance instructor for universities.
Across all my teaching I aim to deepen learners’ understanding of leadership and inspire a personal and professional journey of learning. I prioritise knowledge empowerment through peer collaboration, online resources, workshops, projects, nudges, initiatives and innovative assessments. The goal is not just immediate skill application but fostering learners’ realisation that solutions come from their own ideas, experiences and knowledge — not solely from the instructor.
